Databricks rebrands Delta Sharing as Open Sharing under the Linux Foundation with expanded agent and model sharing
“previously with Delta Sharing, you could share a Delta table, and that was useful, but it's not enough these days”
Databricks has spun out Delta Sharing as 'Open Sharing,' now a Linux Foundation project (opensharing.io) that extends beyond Delta tables to cover Iceberg, Parquet, volumes, agent skills, and models. The architecture keeps data flowing directly from storage to client without passing through the sharing server, improving efficiency. While notable as an open-standard infrastructure move, it is primarily a data platform story with limited direct AI research or frontier model signal.
