SQL Modernization Day
Microsoft previews a SQL modernization agent as GitHub Copilot skills for agentic database migration
“a SQL modernization agent built as skills for GitHub copilot that brings agentic help to SQL modernization right inside your developer tools”
Microsoft held a four-hour SQL Modernization Day event showcasing migration paths from on-premises SQL Server to Azure and Microsoft Fabric, driven by SQL Server 2016 end-of-support and AI workload readiness. Two public previews were announced: a SQL modernization agent as GitHub Copilot skills, and updated Azure Arc capabilities for SQL managed instances. The agentic Copilot integration is the most notable AI signal, positioning database migration as an early use case for developer-tool-embedded AI agents.
