Databricks announced that its Free Edition now includes Genie, GPUs, Agent Hooks, Lakehouse, and Lakeflow Designer, giving users access to nearly the full production platform at no cost. The move is positioned as a developer-adoption and education play to upskill students and practitioners on a production-grade data and AI platform. It is a meaningful go-to-market signal but not a critical industry-wide AI development.
