Microsoft launched 'Bring Your Own Model' in Visual Studio preview, letting developers route IDE AI features through models from Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic, or self-hosted Llama endpoints. Separately, Azure Foundry's model router expanded to 49 regions and added GPT-5.6 and Claude Opus 4.8 to its pool. Both moves signal Microsoft shifting toward model-agnostic developer tooling, with a notable caveat that custom models can bypass built-in responsible AI filtering.
