Chirp Pong

Simon Willison · Oct 15, 2026 · Engineering Insights

Simon Willison built a two-player phone game networked via audio chirps using Claude Code

“Build a two player competitive pong like game where two players use their phones close to each other and the game state is sent via audio noises which the web microphone API can interpret - but add graphical and gameplay twists to make it a lot more fun and intertwine than pong”

Simon Willison used Claude Opus 5.5 Extra in Claude Code to build a browser-based two-player Pong variant that uses microphone-captured audio chirps as the networking layer between two phones, requiring no server infrastructure. The experiment demonstrates Claude Code's utility for novel, constraint-driven engineering prototypes. While technically clever, it is a personal experiment rather than a significant AI industry signal.
