AWS now lets you reference your own AWS Secrets Manager secrets in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Identity for AI agent credentials.

AWS added the ability for Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Identity to reference customer-managed AWS Secrets Manager secrets instead of auto-creating them, giving teams control over encryption, rotation, tags, and resource policies for agent credentials. It's an incremental but practically useful feature for building production agentic systems under existing secrets-governance processes, though it's a vendor-specific configuration enhancement rather than a major industry signal.
