Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5, its new fast/low-cost model, priced at $0.10/$0.50 per million tokens to directly match OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna for workloads under 100k tokens. However, a less generous tokenizer adds a hidden ~25% effective cost increase, and prices jump 5x beyond 100k tokens versus Luna's more modest increase at 272k tokens. The model mandates reasoning (cannot be disabled, defaults to medium), a notable architectural shift from its predecessor Haiku 4.5.
