Microsoft has released a SharePoint Embedded MCP server in public preview alongside a Copilot Retrieval API, enabling developers to ground AI agents in enterprise content without building a separate vector database or compliance stack. The solution keeps data inside the customer's Microsoft 365 tenant with Purview governance controls inherited automatically. This lowers the barrier for enterprise AI app development by eliminating the need to manage a parallel content and compliance infrastructure.
