Agentic Resource Discovery (ARD): An open specification for agent discovery
AWS launches Agent Registry and open ARD specification for cross-environment AI agent discovery
“if every registry describes resources in the same format and exposes discovery through a common protocol, publishers describe once and consumers discover everywhere”
AWS introduced Agent Registry, a centralized enterprise catalog for MCP servers, agents, and tools with approval workflows and hybrid semantic search, alongside an open Agentic Resource Discovery (ARD) specification designed to standardize cross-environment agent discovery. The ARD spec targets the fragmentation problem where agents deployed across multiple clouds, on-prem, and SaaS platforms each use incompatible metadata schemas. This is a significant infrastructure play: if adopted broadly, ARD could become the DNS-equivalent layer for agentic systems, reducing the current bespoke-connector sprawl in enterprise multi-agent deployments.
