Deno is joining Cloudflare
Cloudflare acquires Deno, will discontinue the runtime within one year
“I no longer think it's where I can do the most important work. There are some good ideas in Deno and it's well engineered - but it ultimately is not solving big problems.”
Cloudflare is acquiring Deno to advance self-hostable Workers/Durable Objects infrastructure via the open-source celld project, but will wind down the Deno runtime itself after one year. Ryan Dahl, Deno and Node.js creator, endorsed the decision, arguing Deno got pulled into Node compatibility gravity and celld represents a more ambitious new abstraction for server development. This is a significant JavaScript ecosystem consolidation but has limited direct AI conference signal.
